D batteries are a great source of power for a simple electronic or electrical circuit. It has the same voltages as that of A and C cells but the current in D batteries last for a longer period of time. This makes them a perfect choice for circuits when space and weight are constraints. Following are the steps to show how to make a simple circuit using D cell battery holders.
- Find a low-voltage load that can be used in a circuit. The load is important for the circuit as it gives a 1.5 volt output. The ideal load to be used should be around 1.5, 3 or 6 volts for D batteries that gives an output of 1.5 volts.
- The supplies that should be used include D battery holder, single-pull-single-throw switch, copper wire solder, and a soldering gun.
- There should be two terminals. Connect the battery terminal to the switch terminal. If using an insulated copper wire strip away less than an inch of the enamel from each end of a piece of wire. Then solder the exposed end of wire to each terminal.
- Attach the load using a wire to the other switch terminal and solder the connection.
- Now connect the open terminal of the battery pack to the open terminal of the load. The connections are now ready. Put the D batteries and turn on the switches. The D batteries are now ready for use. You can easily make several such batteries in a similar manner.
